Our Natural Environment
Newcastle East peninsula is a place of scenic beauty and heritage. It offers remarkable opportunities to view the coast, the city, harbour activity, the heritage character of the East End, the heritage landmarks of the East End and its numerous parklands. It is highly valued by all Novocastrians. It is a place for passive recreation, family activities, picnics, barbecues, jogging, walking, swimming, surfing, and bike riding.
The narrow streets, quirky lanes and open parklands are more suited to pedestrian activity than vehicles.
Newcastle has wonderful surfing beaches and ocean pools. They are popular all year round with locals and visitors. During the Supercars event and in the lead up to the race, those beaches and pools will be almost impossible to access. Only ticket holders and locals inside the race precinct will have access. Anyone else will have to walk in from King Edward Park, along the sand to their destination.
